Issue 4 - 17 April 2006 - NGOs Address Concerns to Security Council and Outline Priorities on Improving the Selection Process for the UN Secretary-General

New York, 17 April 2006 — In an open letter to the Security Council, NGOs have launched a campaign to encourage the Security Council to take into consideration a number of crucial yet realistic reforms to enhance the transparency, accountability and effectiveness of the current selection process. The letter, which was sent on Monday 17 April 2006, will be followed by a UN press briefing on Tuesday 18 April 2006 at 11:15am, where various groups will express their priorities on improving the selection process for the UN Secretary-General.
